Descrição

On behalf of the Leitorado Húngaro na USP (University of São Paulo) and the Hungarian Visiting Lecturer Network, we would like to invite you to Prof. Anett Árvay's engaging and thought-provoking lecture on Communication Clash in Intercultural Communication.

Language: English
Duration: 90 min

"Talking to people of different cultures is a challenging task that may become a pleasant experience but can break down and spiral into conflicts. In this lecture first, we discuss what the major causes of these inconvenient situations are with the help of concepts such as ethnocentrism, politeness, mutual expectations, verbal and nonverbal behaviour. Second, through a few case studies we can understand that the cultural differences among the communicative partners explain the conflicts. Finally, the lecture ends with a few suggestions on how to manage the conversations in order to reduce misunderstandings in intercultural communication and how to cope with the clashes if it still happens."

THE LECTURER
